Hi ya'll! Well, I know I've been kind of hit and miss with my postings lately. Things have been totally crazy around here. First of all, A had the flu. Some have asked if A had the Swine Flu or the regular seasonal flu. The doctor said the only way to know for sure if it was Swine Flu was to send the specimen off to the lab to be tested. He said they were not going to send it off though. He went on to say it was too early in the year for the seasonal flu. A definitely tested positive for "Type A" influenza. (Whatever that means!)
What do you think happened next? Of course, I got sick. That's what ALWAYS happens in our family. I don't really think I've had the flu, but I have been coughing my head off and am very congested. Of course, I haven't taken the time to go to the doctor, because I can't take any time off work. One of my co-worker's has been out for the past three weeks and is not expected to be back until the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. This means the rest of us are having to divide her work between us, plus handle our regular responsibilities. Needless to say, everyone is running around with their knickers in a knot.
Even though the whole family is still coughing, we're all finally feeling better! WOOHOO! It's about time!
I hope to be back on schedule with my postings soon! Hopefully things will settle down in the next week or so. I have been working lots of overtime on top of being sick, so I have neglected the important things in my life....like my blog.
In our family, it's hard to deny that A is our son. He acts like me in a lot of ways, poor child. However, he looks like his dad. He's a good mix of both of us....well, I don't know if you would call it a "good" mix. He's got way too much of my attitude! He's also got a lot of his dad's tendency for procrastination. He's in the fourth grade and every six weeks he has a book report due. He has to give on oral report and in some cases, he has to give a demonstration, too. Well, after his last book report I told him he needed to go ahead and start working on the next one. For the next report, he had to read a "How-To" book, make the project, do an oral report and demonstrate the project in class. So, he had a minimum of six weeks. (Although technically he had much longer....his teacher gave us the list of reports/projects due at the beginning of the school year!)
So, when do you think my little son started on his project? If you guessed at the very last minute possible, you would be totally correct. He read the book, I'll give him that. He read it about five weeks ago. However, he didn't even start the project or tell us what he needed for it until two weeks before it was due. J went and bought all the necessary materials. (A's book was called "How To Build a Rocket"......yes, a ROCKET!!) No need to report him as a suspected terrorist just, yet. It wasn't a REAL rocket, although I was a little concerned when he first told me that's what he planned on doing. I imagined him trying to buy plutonium off the black market to fuel the thing. I then imagined I heard someone listening in on our phone conversations. That is a laugh in itself. Our phone conversations are certainly not very interesting. The poor soul assigned to monitor our conversations would surely go to sleep. No, A didn't need plutonium after all. He just needed a couple of dish washing bottles, a pump to blow up soccer balls, tape, scissors, glue, cardboard, etc. Nothing major!
The project was due on last Friday. In spite of my constant nagging and reminding, A decided two nights gave him plenty of time. J seemed to agree with A! The two of them were laughing about me nagging all the time. Well, I think J changed his mind later. He had to help A cut the plastic bottles, cardboard, do some gluing, spray paint the finished "rocket", etc. It turned out to be much more work than he thought. However, it turned out really nice. At school the teacher allowed him to take it outside to demonstrate how it worked. He said the kids all loved it!
In spite of everything, I had a good week. I still managed to lose some weight. I will post the results of my 12th week weigh-in tomorrow. I will have J take my progress pictures and will post them, too.
I hope you all have a great evening!
